The Freedom Shack started in 2023 making precision rifle shooting bags and quickly expanded into other items for shooting sports.
Now in late 2025 we have purchased land to open a shooting range and construction is starting in January, we will be ready for the start of the season in the spring of 2026.
The vision is a range that when you arrive you feel like you've entered not only a range but a range where the people who own/run it take great pride in it. We want to offer a park like setting with clean bays, clean berms and a place you may even want to stick around after and grill some burgers with your friends.
There are currently (5) 25 yard by 15 yard pistol bays, these are USPSA style bays where you run around and shoot in three directions. Those USPSA style/pistol bays are surrounded on three sides with large mounds of dirt.
(1) 50 yard by 15 yard pistol/rifle bay. This bay is also set up for USPSA style shooting and can be used as a stand alone rifle bay for up to 50 yard competitions.
35 yard by 100 yard bay for rifle competitions, this is a large, completely cleared, field of fire as far as width goes. For example the main bay we use at Erie County the pavilion and field of fire width is 70 feet. We are 105 feet wide. This will make for an easy 5+ stages with a lot of shooters.
We have cleared the logging trails that exist in the woods. We are going to utilize the entire 37 acres for Sporting Clay shoots, walk through shoots, tracking schools etc.
The long range has been cleared to 500+ yards with a back stop and we have the back stop built at 300 yards that cover the entire width of the 100 yard rifle bay. This will allow us to do NRLX/PRS style shoots through lanes that are cut into the wooded area behind the 100 yard bay.
Matches will be open to everyone and once scheduled will be accessible by Practiscore, look for that to come in the spring of 2026.
The range will have limited days/hours for people to come and use to practice, sight in rifles etc. We will not be selling memberships as many clubs do. We will be offering a single day "Range Introduction/safety and firearms training class, pistol and rifle." The day will consist of a few hours of classroom and then off to the range to shoot. At the end of the class each person who passes will get a card saying they have qualified and those people and ONLY those people, will be permitted to come and shoot on open range days. There will be exceptions made for people that can prove their capabilities and understanding of rules based on being a current competitor in different shooting sports, such as USPSA, IPSC, NRL etc. Range fees will apply on a daily use basis.Our primary purpose is matches and training. We will offer all types of training from basic firearm safety to advanced USPSA/IPSC/NRL/Long Range. Do you have a favorite trainer that travels and offers training? We want to bring those people in and will offer our range and facility to other trainers. Just have them reach out to us.
There are restaurants and hotels in Willard, Ohio, which is a short 10 minute drive from the range.
