About Us
The Freedom Shack was started in September of 2023.
I (David) saw some things that I wanted changed, including prices, when it comes to shooting support bags, safety items and other products and got started in coming up with some fresh ideas.
All of our bags are all sewn in house by Chris Sheppard, my partner in this. We also came up with affordable 3D printed ARCA plates and quick release clamps. The plates and bags are all designed in house. Brandon, another of our guys here quickly got a grasp for 3D design and handles turning the ideas into reality.
We went from shooting just for pleasure with friends to taking some schools and competing in NRL22 and USPSA competitions. While competing in NRL we met Ben Cullivan who finished in a 1st Place tie in the seasonal NRL standings in 2024 . We asked if he’d try out our bags, which he agreed and gave us feedback. The Sandcastle was developed together with Ben to be the most stable stand alone and ARCA mounted bag you can buy, PERIOD. These bags have gone through hell, literally throwing them into obstacles with all the force we can to make sure they don’t fail. Some of our bags, like the Sand Castle is TWO layers of material. Due to the design, shape and stability the bag can get under a lot of stress. Some of these precision rifles weigh well in excess of 20 pounds with barrier stops, arca rails and other accessories that put extreme stress and rip a poorly designed bag. All of our current bags are made from at least one layer of waxed 10oz cotton canvas, they all come with a deep easy to fill velcro funnel inlet. Through working with Ben we’ve found that sand offers the ultimate in stability. We do offer optional polymer fill for shooters who need a lighter bag for missions, hunting or just making them easier to manage.
While competing in the NRL we continually saw competitors shooting struggling with those ridiculous small chamber flags. They were hard to install, constantly being misplaced and breaking off in the chambers. This was holding up matches and just an overall pain in the butt. The first magwell/chamber safety we built was for the Ruger 10/22, then we did them for the AR15 and AR10, both of which are built long so they can be used in a bench vise to also support the rifle for cleaning and mounting optics etc.
Next was the USPSA, the PCC classes were plagued with these same issues. Flags breaking off in the chambers, hard to install, hard to take out, nowhere to put them while you are running your course of fire. We designed the magwell safety flags for PCC’s. Then we contacted the USPSA to see if a rule change could be implemented to allow this idea, which is more convenient and safer! The idea was met with great enthusiasm and the rules were re-written to allow our products to be used! Our magwell/chamber safety flags can easily be stored in the pouch/mag holder you just removed your mag from so you never have to search for it. They go in and come out like a standard mag and completely block the magwell from having a mag installed and keep the bolt locked back with a clear visible indicator showing the bolt is locked back.
We are just getting started with superior products and great new ideas!
